Host Species | Human |
Accession | AAH34729.1 |
Synonym | TNF-B; LT; TNFSF1; LTA |
Background | TNFB is a member of the tumor necrosis factor cytokine family that is primarily expressed on lymphocytes that control lipid metabolism. TNFB is highly inducible, secreted, and forms heterotrimers with lymphotoxin-beta which anchor lymphotoxin-alpha to the cell surface. TNF-beta acts as a novel therapeutic route for the treatment of dyslipidemia (1). The presence of TNFB accelerates the initiation of immune responses and protects the host from larger viral challenges (2). |

Target Details
Target Function | Cytokine that in its homotrimeric form binds to TNFRSF1A/TNFR1, TNFRSF1B/TNFBR and TNFRSF14/HVEM. In its heterotrimeric form with LTB binds to TNFRSF3/LTBR. Lymphotoxin is produced by lymphocytes and is cytotoxic for a wide range of tumor cells in vitro and in vivo. |
Subcellular Location | Secreted. Membrane. Note=The homotrimer is secreted. The heterotrimer is membrane-associated. |
Protein Families | Tumor necrosis factor family |
