Illustration of an Fc receptor

Fc receptors are a class of proteins present on the surface of immune cells, which play an important role in immune regulation and immune effect. Fc receptors mainly recognize and bind to the Fc region of immunoglobulins, thereby mediating the activation, regulation and effector functions of immune cells.

Fc receptors can be divided into different types, including Fcγ receptors, Fcε receptors, and Fcα receptors. Fcγ receptors mainly bind to the Fc region of immunoglobulin G (IgG), and are widely distributed on the surface of various immune cells, such as macrophages, natural killer cells and B lymphocytes. The binding ability of Fcγ receptors activates immune cells and promotes immune effects such as phagocytosis, antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and intracellular signaling. Fcε receptors mainly bind to the Fc region of immunoglobulin E (IgE) and are expressed in cells such as mast cells and basophils. When IgE binds to an allergen, the Fcε receptor mediates the release of allergic mediators from cells, triggering an allergic response. Fcα receptors bind to the Fc region of immunoglobulin A (IgA), are expressed on specific cells such as macrophages and neutrophils, and participate in IgA-mediated immune responses and clearance.

The structure and function of Fc receptors are diverse. They combine with the Fc region of immunoglobulins to transmit external signals and regulate the activation and effector functions of immune cells. These receptors play an important role in processes such as immune response, inflammatory response and clearance of pathogens. In addition, Fc receptors are also involved in the development and treatment of some diseases. For example, in diseases such as autoimmune diseases and allergies, abnormal activation or overexpression of Fc receptors may lead to immune abnormalities. In immunotherapy, Fc receptors are used to enhance the effect of antibodies and improve curative effect.

The study of Fc receptors is of great significance for understanding the mechanisms of immune regulation, inflammatory response and immune diseases. Further research may help reveal the relationship between the structure and function of Fc receptors, and provide new ideas and targets for the development of disease treatment and immunotherapy.
