Background | The SH2-containing inositol-5-€²-phosphatase, SHIP or SHIP1, is a hematopoietic-specific phosphatidylinositide phosphatase. It is recruited to the plasma membrane after extracellular stimulation and hydrolyzes the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase-generated second messen-ger PI-3,4,5-P3 to PI-3,4-P2, downregulating PI-3,4,5-P3-mediated signaling and represses the proliferation, differentiation, survival, activation, and migration of hematopoietic cells. It has been shown that SHIP1 may act as a tumor suppressor during leukemogenesis and lymphomagenesis. |
