Background | Sentrin-specific protease 2 (SENP2) is a protease that catalyzes the hydrolysis of an alpha-linked peptide bond of the small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) propeptides leading to the mature form of the proteins and the deconjugation of SUMO1, SUMO2 and SUMO3 from targeted protein. SENP2 plays a role in the formation of adipocytes by desumolyating and promoting CEPBP stabilization (1). SENP2 also binds to Nup153, a nucleoporin that is confined to the nucleoplasmic face of the pore and localization of SENP2 to the pore may spatially restrict the activity of this enzyme (2). |
