Product Overview
| Description | Naturally occurring human C4b-binding protein (C4BP) is a large multimeric glycoprotein that plays a crucial regulatory role in both the classical and lectin pathways of the complement system. C4BP is a regulatory protein in the complement cascade and possesses accelerated decay activity. It circulates in plasma and exists in three isoforms: 7 α chains and 1 β chain, 6 α chains and 1 β chain, and 7 α chains but no β chain. The 7α1β isoform is the most abundant. All C4BP molecules containing a β chain circulate in plasma as a high-affinity, calcium-dependent complex with vitamin K-dependent anticoagulant protein S. It acts as a central regulatory site by inhibiting the formation of C3 convertase and accelerating its decay, as well as acting as a cofactor in the enzymatic cleavage of C4b. |
