Product Overview
| Description | Native Human Angiotensinogen serves as the essential precursor molecule of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), functioning as the primary substrate for renin which cleaves its N-terminal decapeptide to generate angiotensin I. This liver-derived glycoprotein circulates in plasma at relatively high concentrations, with its levels influenced by corticosteroids, estrogen, and angiotensin II in a feedback loop, while its reactive center loop structure maintains the critical scissile bond between leucine and valine residues that determines the rate of angiotensin I production. Through this fundamental role in initiating the RAAS cascade, angiotensinogen directly regulates blood pressure, fluid and electrolyte balance, and vascular remodeling, with genetic variations in the AGT gene associated with essential hypertension, preeclampsia, and cardiovascular disease progression through altered enzymatic kinetics and elevated plasma angiotensinogen concentrations. |
