| Target Function | Human serum albumin (HSA) is an approximately 66.5 kDa protein with diverse functions including maintenance of pH and osmotic balance in biochemical assays and culture systems, along with functioning as a carrier protein that binds and transports a wide range of small molecules, including fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin, and metal ions. Additionally, HSA functions as a stabilizer of proteins and enzymes with properties that limit denaturation, aggregation and proteolysis. Due to these functions, recombinant HSA restores many of the transport, protective, and buffering roles lost when serum is removed from chemically defined cell culture media. |
