Form | Liquid or Lyophilized powder |
Buffer | Liquid form: default storage buffer is Tris/PBS-based buffer, 5%-50% glycerol. Lyophilized powder form: the buffer before lyophilization is Tris/PBS-based buffer, 6% Trehalose, pH 8.0. |
Reconstitution | Briefly centrifuged the vial prior to opening to bring the contents to the bottom. Reconstitute protein in deionized sterile water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. It is recommended to add 5-50% of glycerol (final concentration) and aliquot for long-term storage at -20°C/-80°C. The default final concentration of glycerol is 50%. |
Storage | 1. Store at -20°C/-80°C upon receipt, aliquoting is necessary for mutiple use. 2. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. 3. Store working aliquots at 4°C for up to one week. 4. In general, protein in liquid form is stable for up to 6 months at -20°C/-80°C. Protein in lyophilized powder form is stable for up to 12 months at -20°C/-80°C. |
Notes | Repeated freezing and thawing is not recommended. Store working aliquots at 4°C for up to one week. |
Target Details
Target Function | The Golgi complex form catalyzes the production of lactose in the lactating mammary gland and could also be responsible for the synthesis of complex-type N-linked oligosaccharides in many glycoproteins as well as the carbohydrate moieties of glycolipids.; The cell surface form functions as a recognition molecule during a variety of cell to cell and cell to matrix interactions, as those occurring during development and egg fertilization, by binding to specific oligosaccharide ligands on opposing cells or in the extracellular matrix. The secreted form is responsible for the synthesis of complex-type to N-linked oligosaccharides in many glycoproteins as well as the carbohydrate moieties of glycolipids. |
Subcellular Location | [Isoform Long]: Golgi apparatus, Golgi stack membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein. Cell membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein. Cell surface. Cell projection, filopodium.; [Isoform Short]: Golgi apparatus, Golgi stack membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein. |
Protein Families | Glycosyltransferase 7 family |

Tissue Specificity | Detected in milk (at protein level). |
Gene Functions References
- Hypothesized that engineering B4GALT1 to block cleavage and secretion would enhance its retention and its function; to test this hypothesis, replaced CTS domains of bovine B4GALT1 with those from human FUT7, which is not cleaved and secreted. PMID: 25462875
- the beta4galt1 gene is potentially associated with milk production traits in dairy cows and should be considered for further studies on genetics of the milk production traits. PMID: 22311019
