| Background | Secreted LY6/PLAUR Domain Containing 1 (SLURP1) belongs to the Ly6/uPAR family though lacks a GPI-anchoring signal sequence. It is assumed that the SLURP1 protein contains antitumor activity. SLURP1 is a marker of late differentiation of the skin. SLURP1 has been implicated in maintaining the physiological and structural integrity of the keratinocyte layers of the skin. The SLURP1 gene maps to the same chromosomal region as some members of the Ly6/uPAR family of glycoprotein receptors. SLURP1 gene mutations are linked with Mal de Meleda, a rare autosomal recessive skin disorder. |
