Background | Purine-Rich Element Binding Protein B (PURB) is a single-stranded DNA-binding protein which takes part in the dendritic transport of a subset of mRNAs. PURB operates as repressor in myoblasts and fibroblasts in the control of vascular smooth muscle alpha-actin gene transcription. PURB binds preferentially to the single strand of the purine-rich element termed PUR, which is present at origins of replication and in gene flanking regions in various eukaryotes from yeasts through humans. |
